This week for Sample Saturday (in partnership with Et Musique Pour Tous), I sat down with producer Buckwild to get some inside information on one of his tracks.
Buckwild constructed a beat for Big Pun’s classic album Capital Punishment using a sample from Love Unlimited’s “Under the Influence of Love.” Love Unlimited was a female trio that started out providing background vocals for Barry White, and eventually obtained success with their own recordings. Pun recorded his verses, and the song was completed, but it never made the album. Clearance issues forced them to make another version … not alot of people know the Dream Shatterer on Capital Punishment was actually a remix. At the same time Bad Boy was able to clear the same sample for Black Rob’s “I Dare You.”
The Dream Shatterer (Original Version) finally found a home on the 2001 album Endangered Species, which was released following Big Pun’s death in February of 2000. R.I.P. Big Pun – One of the Greatest Ever
