I spent the earlier half of today running around Manhattan like UPS, delivering small stacks of mixtapes to the team. Some were new contacts, some were long time friends, but nonetheless each short encounter was inspiring in its own way. Overall, the last few weeks have been mainly non-music related tasks. Lots of emails, some traveling, a few meetings a day, more emails, and zero time in the studio.
Since I got in all these tasks early, today was the perfect day to take some time to do a little writing, and I was able to do this at one of my favorite spots in the city to create. Tainted Blue Studio is in the heart of Times Square, but I usually forget that the moment I shift into music mode. Unless I get off the elevator in already active music mode, like today, and in that case I don’t care where the studio is. I digress… anyway, thanks to my good friend Jillian Marie this place is a creative hideout for me. ProTools HD and the SSL Console are only a few of the reasons to want to record, mix, and master in this place. For my fellow music makers, check out the full gear list here.

Before I left I went through some ideas, arranged a few new chords, and played a very random and chopped up medley of songs. I always feel the need to do that while I’m here since the Steinway grand has such a rich sound in that room. One song in that medley today; She’s Got A Way.
